About me

Welcome! I'm Nikki (she/her), a birth worker based in Hilversum. Originally from Ireland and living in the Netherlands since 2018, I began my doula training in 2022 with BiA Doula in Amsterdam. I came to doula work via the passion I have for bodily autonomy and reproductive justice. Collective care, equity and respect are principles that are central to me and the work that I do. Alongside being a birth doula, I am also a researcher in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

I provide support throughout the Gooi, Amsterdam, and Utrecht areas. As a doula, I endeavor to support you in navigating the adventure of birth with equal parts expertise and laughter. I'm here to ensure you feel empowered, supported, and heard throughout your journey.

  • Shorter labour durations.

  • Increased feelings of empowerment.

  • Improved birth satisfaction.

  • Facilitates informed decision making.

What are the benefits of having a doula?

Two women, one lying on a inflatable pool while in labour with her eyes closed, and another woman who is her doula sitting on an exercise ball, leaning over her and pouring warm water down her back.

But what do doulas actually do?

At their core, birth doulas provide physical, emotional, logistical and informational support to pregnant people and their partner during pregnancy and childbirth. Doulas are there to provide consistent, personalised care. During pregnancy, this manifests as providing information on relevant topics you would like more information on, supporting you in developing your birth preferences and practicing for labour with both you and your partner.

During labour, your doula can help you with breathing techniques, visualisation exercises, massages, counter pressure techniques to help ease the pain of contractions and suggesting and helping you move into different positions to help with the progression of labour. Your doula also helps with making sure that you have the space for informed-decision making during labour.
